The Partridge Family - Season 3, Episode 9 (58)
Title: Swiss Family Partridge
First aired: November 10, 1972
Synopsis:
After a concert (The Partridges sing “It Means I’m In Love With You”) Shirley surprises her family with a vacation in a secluded, rustic cabin which Reuben borrowed from a friend. Reuben won’t be staying at the cabin. He has plans to visit Lola at Lake Tahoe, forty miles away.
A thunderstorm mires the Partridge Family bus in mud and the Partridges and Reuben are confined in the cabin. To stave off boredom, the Partridges play a game called “Finish the Story” and talk. Then they go to sleep — at 7:30 in the evening — boys in one bedroom and girls in the other.
Danny plays his transistor radio, and the group learns the storm could last five days and they only have food for two. Shirley suggests they create a survival plan to ration the food. Keith admits he said a dumb thing when he recommends rationing the water and Laurie tells him “Your portion is Lake Erie.”
In an effort to call for help, Keith and Reuben devise “Operation Big Mouth” by hooking up the group’s amplifier and microphone to the generator on the bus. The plan fails when Reuben is nearly electrocuted when he tries to hook wires to the generator.
Fearing they will remain isolated forever, the Partridges and Reuben are surprised when B.J. Wacker, a forest ranger, arrives at the cabin asking if they need help. Grateful to have been saved, the Partridges help Wacker with his request: his car is stuck in the mud and he needs a push.
After the group has returned home, Reuben reminisces about the trip: “It wasn’t much of a vacation, but it was an adventure.”
