The Partridge Family - Season 4, Episode 11 (85)
Title: Al In The Family
First aired: November 24, 1973
Synopsis:
The family is rehearsing in the garage when their manager, Reuben Kincaid, arrives with his nephew, Alan. Alan is a very nice, young man but extremely shy and with a lack of confidence. He wants to be in show business and a manager like his uncle. Alan is very keen on learning and writes down everything that Reuben tells him, even the unimportant details. He wants to be very helpful, but his help can be troublesome. Alan thinks about himself as a lifelong failure. When asked what he really wants to do in life he confesses that he would love to be a comedian. He shows the kids his comedy routine, and he is really funny because he can make fun of himself. But Alan says he is too shy to perform with the audience.
Reuben also doesn’t believe in his nephew and is terrified when he has to leave town and let the family go on tour without him. He is not sure that Alan will be a good replacement even just for 2 days but there is no other choice. At first Alan does the job wonderfully. Everything is going according to schedule and Shirley and the kids are very satisfied and happy for him. However, everything changes for the worse when Alan loses his notebook with Reuben’s instructions. He forgets to make a reservation at the restaurant for the family, the costumes are not ready on time, and he even accidentally turns off the lights during The Partridge Family’s concert.
Alan wants to quit. Shirley and the kids are very sorry for him, but they also can see that he is not good as a manager. There is one thing Alan is very good at, he can make people laugh. So, Shirley organised for him to perform with them. Reuben arrives and is terrified that Alan is to show his comedy routine in public. At first it looks like it is going to be a disaster. Alan closes his eyes in front of the audience but as soon as he starts talking people laugh and his act is very successful.
