The Partridge Family - Season 4, Episode 16 (90)

Title: Queen For A Minute

First aired: February 2, 1974

Synopsis:
Keith wants to rehearse a new song with Laurie, but she has no time as she is preparing to go away for the weekend. She wants to spend a night with her friend Frankie, a basketball player.

Keith can’t believe that their mother has nothing against it, even when Laurie says that she and Frankie will be alone at the house. But to Keith’s surprise Frankie is a girl, a very talented basketball player, who wants to play with boys for the school basketball team.

Keith, Danny and Reuben think that it’s an unheard of, and ridiculous, idea. Frankie tries out for the team, she plays very well, but is rejected because she is a girl. Laurie and Frankie think that is very unfair, they are really upset.

Shirley has an idea for them. There is a school contest for a Homecoming Queen, why not run for it, just to have an opportunity to speak about discrimination. The girls think that it’s a great idea and Laurie agrees to take part in the upcoming contest. But Keith and Danny overhear their conversation, and to show girls that the idea of equality is funny, Keith convinces his friend, Jerry Bishop to run for the title of Homecoming Queen against Laurie.

At the contest Jerry becomes the first runner up and Laurie is the Homecoming Queen of San Pueblo High School. In her speech she talks about discrimination, that people shouldn’t be judged by their looks, and women are people like men so they should have the same rights. When she finishes her speech, she resigns and the first runner up, Jerry Bishop becomes the Homecoming Queen!

Later, the whole family tell Laurie that they are proud of her actions.
