The Partridge Family - Season 4, Episode 20 (94)
Title: Morning Becomes Electric
First aired: March 9, 1974
Synopsis:
The Partridge Family is invited to perform at an energy conservation rally. It’s an important meeting, the Mayor of San Pueblo is present too. But Danny is late and everybody has to wait for him. Then Danny's guitar blows all the fuses so the family can’t perform.
Back at home Shirley has an idea. The family should volunteer to be a model family to show others how to cut down 10% of electricity.
Mayor Towbin loves the idea and offers to help with publicity and complete coverage. Danny suggests printing the names of ‘energy hogs’ in the news and the mayor is very happy with that idea too. Photos are taken and articles about ‘the model family’ appear in the press.
Danny misreads the meter and with 2 days left until the end of billing period he tries to hide his mistake but very quickly the family discovers the truth. The situation is serious, the model family may be included in the ‘energy hog’ list. As they have only 27kw left they keep an eye on each other, to use as little energy as possible, but it’s not enough. Shirley decides there is no other way - for 24 hours the family can’t use the electricity at all. Danny even disconnects the bell at the door, they eat cold dinner in a cold and dark room. Keith lights a fire in the fireplace and suddenly the kids discover that it’s so nice to sit together and have a quiet evening. Keith picks up his guitar, and they start singing together.
The family manages not to be on the list, but Reuben is very surprised that he is ‘an electricity hog’
